Master (Default)

o o x o When installing only one drive, leave the jumper
o o X o in this factory set position. You can also use
this setting for the first (Master) drive, when
attaching a second (Slave) drive that conforms
ATA-2 specifications.
Master with Slave
-----------------
o x o o Use this jumper setting for the first (Master)
o X o o drive, in two drive installations where the
second (Slave) drive does NOT conform to ATA-2
(EIDE) specifications.
Slave
-----
o o o x Use this jumper setting for the setting for the
o o o X second drive of a two drive installation. Only one
of the two drives attached can have this setting.
Cable Select
------------
o o o o When using this jumper setting, the cable select
o o xxx line (pin 28) determines the assignment of Master
and Slave in two drive installations. Verify that
you have the necessary signal cable modifications
before using this jumper setting. If the select
line in your cable is not modified, use the
appropriate jumper settings for Master and Slave

The first drive attached to a host adapter must be a Master.
