 Jumper Setting
 ==============

 J9 and J10 Terminators
 -----------------------
All single-drive systems have terminators J9 and J10 installed. For
multi-drive systems, terminators J9 and J10 may only installed in the
last drive of a daisychain configuration. All drives are shipped with
 the terminators installed.

 J18 Grounding Connector
 ------------------------
The frame grounding connector (J18) is a Faston AMP P/N 61761-2 tap
connector. The recommended mating connector is AMP P/N 62187-1 or
equivalent. The hole in the Faston tap accomodates a wire size of
 18 AWG.

Use of frame ground connection is recommended in order to reduce
ground loops which may result in electrical noise problems.

have a unique address. The sequence of addressing is optional. All
drives are shipped with address 0 preset.

The MegaFile series uses 5.25" industry-standard form factor. The
drive can be mounted horizontally or vertically using the eight
mounting holes provided on the outer frame and connecting the power
 cable and the interface cable.

 Mounting holes: 2 per side, #6-32UNC - 2 B 0.14 deep (4x)
                 4 on bottom, #6-32UNC - 2 B 0.4 deep (4x)

 Cooling
 -------
The enclosure must be designed to allow natural convection of heat by
permitting the free flow of air around and between the pronted
 circuit board.

The MegaFile model dissipates typ. 27 watts during normal operation
conditions. This dissipated heat must be removed from the enclosure
at a rate that is sufficient to maintain the ambient air temperature
around the drive at or below 45*C (113*F). The operating temperature
range is specified at a distance of 30 mm to the Drive.

 NOTE
 External cooling is not required.

 Electrical Interface
 --------------------
The electrical interface consists of the logical interface for inter-
connection of the drive to the SCSI-Bus and the power interface for
delivery or primary power. It is provided via the following
 connectors:

 - J1 = SCSI-Interface connector
 - J3 = DC power connector
 - J18 = frame ground

 Logical Interface
 -----------------
The logical interface to the drive complies to the SCSI standard ANSI
X3T9.2/86-109. This standard defines the necessary functional,
electrical, and mechanical requirements of the interface and provides
optional features with its connector pin assignment and functional
 protocols.

The exact description of the standard functions, the optional
functions, the signal description and the operational specifications
are defined in the "Interface Specifications for MegaFile (SCSI)".

J3 DC Power and pin connector assignments
 -------------------------------------------
Delivery of primary power (DC) is provided by a separate DC power
 connector (J3). Used is a 4 pin AMP MATE-N-LOCK connector P/N
827001-1 mounted on the component side of the PCB.

The recommended mating connector is AMP P/N 1-480424-0 utilizing
AMP pins P/N 350078-4 (strip) or P/N 61173-4 (loose piece) or
 equivalent.

 pin 1 +12 VDC
 pin 2 +12 Volts Return
 pin 3 + 5 Volts Return
 pin 4 + 5 VDC

 Physical Description
 --------------------
SCSI devices are daisy-chained together using a common cable. Both
ends of the cable are terminated. All signals are common between all
 SCSI devices.

Single-ended drives and receivers, whcih allow a maximum cable length
of six meters (primarily for connection within a cabinet) are
 available.

 Connector Requirements
 ----------------------
Non shielded connectors are specified. The nonshielded connectors are
 typically used for in-cabinet applications.

The nonshielded SCSI device connector is a 50-conductor connector
consisting of two rows of 25 pins with adjacent pins 2.54mm (0.1
 inch) apart.

EZI MEGAFILE SCSI PRODUCT DESCRIPTION REV. A, AUGUST 1987

 Electrical Description
 ----------------------
 NOTE
For these measurements, SCSI bus termination is assumed to be
external to the SCSI device. An SCSI device may have the provision
 for allowing optional internal termination.

All assigned signals shall be terminated with 220 ohms to +5 volts
(nominal) and 330 ohms to ground at each end of the cable. All
signals shall use open-collector or three-state drivers.

 Output Characteristics
 ----------------------
Each signal driven by an SCSI device shall have the following output
characteristics when measured at the SCSI device's connector:

Signal assertion = 0.0 volts DC to 0.4 volts DC
Minimum driver output capability = 48 milliamps (sinking) at 0.5
Volts DC Signal negation = 2.5 volts DC to 5.25 volts DC

 Input Characteristics
 ---------------------
Each signal received by an SCSI device shall have the following input
characteristics when measured at the SCSI device's connector:

Signal true = 0.0 volts DC to 0.8 volts DC
Maximum total input load = -0.4 milliamps at 0.4 volts DC
Signal false = 2.0 volts DC to 5.25 volts DC
Minimum input hysteresis = 0.2 volts DC

 System Configuration
 --------------------
The SCSI interface permits a maximum of 8 devices to be connected to
the SCSI Bus. A MegaFile Series SCSI-drive represents one bus device.
All drives are assembled with a terminator but in a multiple drive
configuration the terminator has to be installed only in the last
 physical drive in the chain.

 Spindle Assembly
 ----------------
A brushless DC motor is embedded in the spindle hub and rotates the
spindle at 3524 rpm +/- 0,4%. Motor and spindle are dynamically
balanced to assure a low vibration level.

Dynamical and mechanical brakes are used to quickly stop the spindle
assembly when the power i sturned off, or a spin down command is
 executed on.

Indicators on the Optional Front Panel
 --------------------------------------
The front panel is optional available. It consists of a plastic panel
and one red light diode (LED).

The LED indicate the "BUSY" or "ACTIVE" check if active during
 Disconnect.

 Data Organization
 -----------------
The MegaFile series is designed to use a fixed sector format. The
length of the data blocks is 512 Bytes. Each surface has 1216 tracks
for data recording purposes. Track number -2 is designated for sur-
face analysis information. Each track is divided into 35 sectors,
 numbered from 0 to 34.

 Media Defects
 -------------
Media defects are physical imperfections in the magnetic material.
This defects give repeatedly inability to reliably write and read
data. At manufacturing of MegaFile several methods are used in order
 to find media defects.

At the time of shipment the MegaFile Series recording surfaces will
 meet the following requirements:

 1216 total tracks per surface
 max. Defects/Surface: 45
 max. Defects/Drive: Model 2200-200
                     Model 2300-300

 Media Defect Mapping
 --------------------
At the time of manufacturing, media defect information is recorded
on the surface analysis cylinder (SA-Cylinder, minus 2) Head 0 and
Head 7 for Model 2200 and Head 11 for Model 2300.

Any defects on the media surface will be identified. This defect
mapping will indicate the head number, track number, and number of
bytes from index for each defect.

The embedded controller creates a Primary Defect List, which is
stored on SA-Cylinder, Hd 1 and can be accessed by the "Read Bad
 Sector"-Command.
