 Jumper Setting
 ==============

 Address Assignments
 -------------------
 An individual drive may have an address of 0, 1, 2, or 3. The address
 is determined by the connection of the drive select jumpers. These
 jumpers are located (near the microprocessor) on the PCB of the
 drive. Jumper installed at S1, S2, S3, or S4 selects drive address
 0, 1, 2 or 3, respectively.

 Notes on Installation
 =====================

 Mounting
 --------
 The TITAN LT200 may be mounted in any position. Eight mounting holes
 are provided in the drive chassis. These holes accept 6-32 machine
 screws. Please note that up to four drives may be mounted in a
 standard 3.25" x 5.75" x 8.0" space in a host system.

 Power dissipation for the drive is 11.5 watts (average). Cooling,
 whether by air or by fan, must sufficient to keep both the drive and
 the host system within their required temperature limits.


 Cable Connections
 -----------------
 After the drive has been mounted, connect the cables. Use only the
 recommended cables. For the control cable and data interface, we
 recommended the twisted pair or flat ribbon cables. These cables
 should not be longer than 20 feet. Similarily, the power cable should
 have twisted pairs for each line voltage and return.


 Multiple Drive Interconnect
 ---------------------------
 When more than one drive is installed into a host system, the cabling
 between the controller/data separator of the host system and the
 drive should be arranged as shown in the following figure.

 Connectors
 ----------
 Three types of connectors are required for the LT200 electrical
 interface. Use the following types or their equivalents:

 These P1, P2, and P3 connectors (on the TITAN's PCB) mate with the
 edge connectors (J1 and J2) and power connector (J3), respectively.


 Data Interface
 --------------
 Connectors J1 and J2 are assigned for the data interface; J1 has 34
 pins and J2 has 20 pins. The even pin numbers are shown on the
 component side of the PCB. The odd pin numbers are printed on the
 solder side of the PCB. Both have their key slot between 4 and 6.


 Drive Control and Power Interface
 ---------------------------------
 All drive outputs are driven by tri-state drivers. All drive control
 output signals are unbalanced true when low, and are in the high-
 impedance state when the drive is not selected.

 Observe the following restrictions when applying power to the TITAN
 LT200:

 - If the 5-volt power is applied first, the 12-volt power must follow
   within 100 msec.

 - Both the 5-volt and 12-volt supplies must be able to maintain the
   necessary voltage and ripple specifications with 12 ohm resistive
   loads. During the first four seconds, the 12-volt supply must
   maintain these specifications with a 4.8 ohm resistive load.

 - During operation, the rate of voltage change for the 12-volt supply
   must not exceed the specified tolerance.

 - During operation, the dc power must never be broken. Only the ac
   can be used for power down. Do not disconnect the dc plug (P3) with
   power applied. If dc power is interrupted during operation, repeat
   power up instructions and power down using ac shut off.

 General Description
 -------------------
 The LT200 Winchester disk drive may be used as a storage device for
 any computer system with the industry standard ST412 or ST506 inter-
 face. This product is ideal for ruggedized applicatons and specially
 suited where compact size, light weight, high storage capacity, and
 reliability is required.

 The LT200 is a rugged, light weight 3.5-inch Winchester disk drive.
 It has a storage capacity of 20 megabytes formatted with 16 spare
 tracks. It has a four-point internal suspension systm and head lifter
 which allows it to withstand shocks up to 60 g's when power is off.
 It far exceeds the industry standard. With external shock absorbers,
 this figure can be significantly improved. Head/media slap in transit
 is protected by a proprietary head lifter, which automatically lifts
 the heads from the media and locks them in a secure position when
 power goes down. When the power is applied, it sets the disks in
 motion and the head lifter loads the heads back to the surface of the
 media where they fly just above the media surface. This feature
 eliminates head/media wear during start ups and power downs, as well
 as prevents the potential for stiction.

 The LT200 uses a rotary band positioner driven by a bipolar stepper
 motor. This operates under the control of a microprocessor and it
 positions the read/write heads. The head positioning system is
 designed in such a way that the two thermal loops of the positioning
 system is designed in such a way that the two thermal loops of the
 positioning system oppose one another. This results in an extremely
 accurate head positioning over the entire operating temperature
 range.

 A ferrofluidic seal is installed to eliminate contamination from the
 motor bearings. The recirculating filter at the periphery of the
 disks efficiently cleans the HDA air by trapping entrained particles.

 The electronics of the LT200 are mounted on a single four-layer
 circuit board beneath the HDA and inside the shock-mounted frame.
 On-board diagnostics monitor the power supply, host controller, and
 drive functions. Up to four TITAN LT200 drives can be linked to a
 single controller on a common power and control bus.


 Head Lifter Mechanism
 ---------------------
 The LT200 uses the proprietary head lifter mechanism that is unique
 in the Winchester disk drive technology. This mechanism prevents the
 heads from ever touching the disk surface thus making it shock
 resistant while eleiminating stiction and head/media wear. The head
 lifter mechanism consists of four sturdy metal rods, a spring, and
 head lifter circuitry. When the power is interrupted, the heads are
 automatically lifted from the disk surface.


 Precompensation
 ---------------
 Precompensation is recommended on every track from 0 to 615. The
 optimum amount of precompensation is 12 nanoseconds for both early
 and late bits.


 Mapped Defects
 --------------
 Each drive shipped from the factory will have a list of disk defects
 attached to the HDA cover. The list will indicate the number and
 location of hard errors. These defects must be excluded from any data
 or format use in order to meet specified error rates.

 The total number of maximum allowable defects are as follows:

 a. 30 per drive
 b. 10 per disk surface.
