 Drive Cabling
 -------------
If you are connecting the drive with a straight (non-twisted) 34 pin
control cable, verify that the drive select jumper is on DS0. If you
are using a twisted 34 pin control cable (5 wire twist), move the
 drive select jumper to DS1.

Verify that both the 20 pin data cable and the 34 pin control cable
are connected to pin 1 at the drive connectors and pin 1 of the
 controller board connector.

Note: The colored edge of both ribbon cables represents pin 1.

If the drive will be the secondary device of a two-drive setup re-
 move terminating resistor RP1.

 Formatting Guidelines
 ---------------------
Before a hard disk drive can be used, 3 steps must be completed:

 1. The drive must be low-level formatted to establish communications
with the disk drive and controller board.

 2. The drive must be partitioned into one or more logical drives. Use
the fdisk programm from DOS versions 3.3 or higher or partioning
software like Disk Manager or Speedstor.

 3. The drive must be high-level formatted to prepare it for the
operating system installation. Use the DOS format command or Disk
    Manager/Speedstor software.

 XT 8086/8088 Installation
 -------------------------
Use the utilities from any 8 bit controller board to low-lwvel format
the drive. Typical routinetis to use the DOS debug command to address
these utilities. If the low-level format program of the controller
asks for step pulse rate or control byte values, use the controller
 default values.

 AT 80286/80386 Installation
 ---------------------------
Use the MiniScribe version of Ontrack Disk Manager software or the
Universal version of Speedstor software of the entire formatting
 process.
